It has come to light that on May 7th 2020, Media Channel Personnel belonging to Hiru TV and Derana have unlawfully and unethically entered the premise of a suspected Covid 19 patient in Weligama. The media personnel had taken stills and video footage of the patient without any permission.
It has been found that the said suspected patient has been cleared after tests proved to be negative but this unethical behaviour of the media personnel have caused distress to the suspected patient and the family members.
Weligama Urban Council Chairman Mr.Rehaan Jayawickreme had written a letter to Hiru TV and Derana stating that they have been banned from unauthorised visit of such media personnel on private property of suspected patients.

Mr.Rehaan went on to say that although he watched in disgust as similar incidents happend through out the country he will not tolerate it under his town limit.
Mr.Rehaan has been a popular figure within the Weligama UC area and in 2018 got the highest percentage of votes in the LG elections.
